The International Phonetic Alphabet
The symbols used for the International Phonetic Alphabet are organized by type: consonants (infraglottal and supraglottal, coarticulated), vowels, suprasegmentals, and diacritics. Symbols exist only for sounds that occur as a phoneme in at least one language in the world.
